18-year-old entrepreneur opens her own beauty bar business in pandemic pivot
DETROIT (FOX 2) – Love Hairston is only 18 years old but has his own business. contractor
“It’s really amazing, I love it,” she said. “I’m so happy to wake up every morning being like wow.”
The Southfield woman graduated from Bloomfield Hills Groves High School last year. Hairston was planning to go to college in Atlanta – but switched to online classes because of the pandemic.
She then noticed that she was having additional downtime.
“I was just sitting here thinking about what else I can do while I wait,” she said.
Hairston decided she didn’t want to wait to own her own business. So she took the extra money she had saved for school and opened the L. Liana Beauty Bar on W. McNicholas near the Southfield Freeway on the west side of Detroit.
“Me being so young, having to deal with entrepreneurs and doing it on my own was tough,” she said. “I went from not paying my mom’s bills to having to manage everything here, contractors charge everything, so I learned a lot. “
Currently, four technicians are renting suites inside Hairston’s beauty bar and she has four additional bedrooms. Despite being a busy business owner, Hairston still has two jobs and takes courses online. In the meantime, she hopes to set a good example for other young entrepreneurs.
“I just want to inspire other people that you’re never too young, you’re never too old or whatever, to start a business and get started,” she said.
L. Liana is located at 17320 W McNichols in Detroit. At Facebook HERE and Instagram HERE.
