9 flame nail art designs that are literally on fire
It’s about to get extremely hot outside – while you might be seeking refuge indoors and crashing in front of the air conditioner, you can channel the summer heat with nail art in the house. flame.
The manicure trend, which has been seen on the fingertips of Doja cat and Dua Lipa and all over your social media feeds, it’s about creating literal flame designs at your fingertips. It is impossible to determine its exact emergence, but I suspect it has something to do with the overgrowth of Thrasher t-shirts and worship of all things Y2K.
If you ask a nail artist to test the look, you don’t have to think about anything other than the color scheme and flame design details. But, if you have a steady hand, you can try DIY your own fiery manicure, says Brittney Boyce, famous nail artist and founder of LA nails – although she admits it’s one of the more difficult designs to master. “It takes a lot of practice, even for nail artists,” she tells Bustle. “You have to build on each layer to get the right thickness, pigmentation and sharpness as well as the right curves.”
For the daring and undeterred, the first step to achieving this handmade look is a stripper brush, a dry brush, acetone, and nail polish. Start your flames by creating a “C” in the middle of the nail with your stripper brush, Boyce says. Tap the brush to change the thickness of the line and add dimension to different parts of the flame. “Keep adding to the fire by creating these C-shaped curves for the other flame tips,” she advises. Once that’s done, Boyce recommends using a dry brush dipped in acetone to clean all the lines – but that’s it.
It might sound simple, but it’s a lot of work for an untrained hand … which is why Boyce has a hack for those not so familiar with nail art. “The best way for most home nail enthusiasts to achieve the flame look is with decals, “she says. Pro tip: There are lots of cute options available on Etsy.
