Amazon Highlights EWG VERIFIED ™ Products in Climate Pledge Friendly
WASHINGTON – The environmental task force today joins Amazon’s efforts to tackle the climate crisis by promoting more sustainable products. The retailer is teaming up with EWG to present cosmetics and other items that have been awarded the highly sought-after EWG VERIFIED ™ brand.
Through its Climate Pledge Friendly initiative, Amazon makes it easy for consumers to buy more sustainable products. The EWG VERIFIED brand is one of the latest external certifications to be part of Climate Pledge Friendly. Products that hold one or more of the certifications included in the program receive a Climate Pledge Friendly badge.
For nearly 30 years, EWG has monitored chemical safety and warned consumers about companies that use dangerous chemicals in items such as cosmetics and other personal care products. Shortly after launching the revolutionary Skin Deep® cosmetics database, EWG created consumer databases for household cleaning products and processed foods.
Products that achieve the EWG VERIFIED designation are free from chemicals of concern and meet strict transparency guidelines set by EWG to protect your health.

Amazon launched its Climate Pledge Friendly program in 2020 and now has more than 75,000 products touted as more sustainable.

Amazon reviews hundreds of external sustainability certifications and selects organizations that recognize products with demonstrated environmental sustainability benefits. And with the addition of EWG VERIFIED, consumers will discover products that are healthier too.
Each organization that is part of Climate Pledge Friendly has been reviewed by sustainability experts within Amazon and third-party consultants to ensure that third-party programs like EWG VERIFIED are reputable, transparent, and scientifically defensible.
“The EWG VERIFIED brand is recognized as the gold standard for health and transparency,” said Carla Burns, Senior Director of Cosmetic Sciences at EWG. “EWG has a long history of verifying cosmetics and other personal care products, and has recently expanded to household cleaners, baby diapers and ingredients.

When consumers see a product with the Climate Pledge Friendly badge, they will also be able to learn more about the certification behind it. Items covered by the Climate Pledge Friendly include grocery, household, fashion, beauty and personal electronics, among others in a range of categories.
