Newcomer: the golden ritual
In the old Papyrus space on Reade and Greenwich comes Golden Ritual, which is just how it sounds: a gold-plated version of the manicure-pedicure. They only offer manicures and pedicures and only the so-called Russian style – a 90-minute process that then lasts four to six weeks.
Ian Austin has opened other skin care spas before – he has Cane + Austin on the Upper East Side – but this is his first nail shop and he has spruced it up with luxurious decor (the store is very pretty) and amenities. There are several private rooms for one or two people, special chairs that move your legs for you while you receive a pedicure, and as city law now requires, a new ventilation system throughout. The basic cost of a manicure is $ 80.
There are lounges that do this process in Sheepshead Bay, of course, but only one in Midtown and none on this scale. He also considered doing facials, but decided to keep it simple and just do one concept – and one that’s more covid-friendly.
The soft opening is this coming week and they will officially open on October 19th. In the meantime, his staff will be training. See them here working on a quail egg (raw!) And a latex glove puffed up like a balloon.
