But have you ever thought of a set inspired by a voodoo doll? For a talented nail technician from Hull, this incredible design propelled her to worldwide success.
Natasha Newton, 32, a freelance nail artist who works from her home in east Hull, won first place at Nailympia – the world’s biggest nail competition and landed a job with a big brand of nail products.
Natasha competed against technicians from 30 countries, but won the gold medal in the mixed media, division one category for her voodoo doll-inspired ensemble.
She said: “It was surreal. I got into mixed media, which is a certain height art through ten tips. I didn’t think I would be in the top three no matter first.
“The theme was open, so I wanted to do something different that no one had seen, something that told a story, so I decided to make a voodoo doll.”
She also continued to gain further recognition for her talent, as she was shortlisted as a finalist for the “Nail Artist of the Year” and “Rising Star” categories in the 2022 Hair and Beauty Awards.
The talented nail artist has also been featured on several occasions in the world’s leading nail magazine, Scratch Magazine.
The 32-year-old has started her own business, Nails by Natasha, and has been in the industry for four years.
She specializes in acrylic nails, but is also good at creating 3D designs and has accumulated nearly 3,000 likes on her Facebook page.
“I definitely see it more as a passion than a job, I take great pride in my job which has forced me to be a perfectionist,” she said.
“I am proud of what I have accomplished in a short period of time.”
Her success in the nail industry led her to become an ambassador for Glitterbels, a professional nail products brand with 313,000 Instagram followers, created by Nails by Annabelle, a famous Instagram nail artist.
Natasha was then offered a job by the brand as a video content creator.
Speaking about her designs, she said, “Inspiration comes from everywhere. There is no real limit to what can be created.
Nail appointments can be booked through her Instagram and Facebook pages, as she is open to new clients.
