I was banned from having a pedicure in a salon because of my weight, I have never been so humiliated
WHEN Ashley Cheffen first moved to South Carolina in 2018, one of her number one priorities was finding a new nail salon – and POSH Nail Spa II in Colombia ticked all the boxes.
But despite having only had positive experiences for three years, Ashley says she was BANNED from having a pedicure last month because of her weight.
On June 18, Ashley arrived for her appointment and was taken to a spa chair after a short wait.
As usual, the nail technician started prepping her feet – but told Wach Fox News it didn’t take long for her to abruptly get up and leave without saying a word.
That’s when Ashley claims the receptionist came to see her and told her that they couldn’t give her a pedicure because of her weight.
Ashley said: “She said ma’am, unfortunately he will not be able to continue your services.
“We are not going to be able to complete your pedicure due to the treatment weight limit.”
As stated in the salon’s company policy, any guest weighing more than 300 pounds is responsible for the cost of the spa chair in the event of breakage.
But the document says nothing about denial of service to customers because of their weight – and only mentions firing people if they cause a “disruption” in the salon.
However, Ashley was so mortified by the incident that she rushed out of the spa and did not challenge them about it.
She continued, “I left, I sat in my car and kind of had a moment.
“I was embarrassed, I was humiliated and I felt horrible.”
A spokesperson for the salon told the publication that the weight limits on the chairs are imposed for the safety of customers and revealed that the receptionist is no longer employed by the salon.
He said: “POSH is here to serve everyone and there is absolutely no discrimination against anyone, regardless of size.
“As a manager, we’re going to go around and make sure everyone is comfortable.”
