Major Ronald Wayne Culver Hero 5K Run / Walk starts this morning
Major Ronald Wayne Culver Hero 5K Run / Walk begins at 7:30 a.m., kicking off the SouthArk Foundation’s annual outdoor exhibit.
Culver, 44, was killed in action on May 24, 2010 in Numaniyah, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device struck the vehicle he was in as part of a convoy returning to his base. He served in the US Army National Guard. He was an AmerCable employee and a community volunteer.
September 11 commemorative ceremony today
A ceremony commemorating the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attacks on the United States will be held today at 9:30 a.m. at the Arkansas 9/11 Memorial, located at the El Dorado Conference Center on the west campus of South Arkansas Community College.
This year’s program will include the laying of commemorative wreaths, a selection of patriotic music, a presentation by the Arkansas Association of Chiefs of the Police Honor Guard, and an account of how the 9/11 Memorial came to find its current home. in El Dorado.
The program is open to the public.
Climbing the El Dorado 9/11 memorial staircase today
The climb of the El Dorado 9/11 Memorial Staircase, coordinated by the El Dorado Fire Department and El Dorado Professional Firefighters Local 1074, in conjunction with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, will begin today at 11 a.m. at the Union County Courthouse.
The event is held to pay tribute to firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medics / paramedics, and military personnel who died in terrorist attacks in New York City, Washington DC and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
Participants will take 1,980 steps on the two flights of stairs between the first and third floors of the courthouse to recreate a 110-story climb of firefighters and other first responders made at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Climbers can select and wear badges with the names and photos of firefighters, law enforcement and emergency medical technicians / paramedics who died in the attacks.
On-site registration will begin at 10:30 am The registration fee is $ 35.
Outdoor exhibition today
The SouthArk Foundation Outdoor Expo will be held from 7:30 a.m. to approximately 4 p.m.
Activities to be held at the Outdoor Expo include BB pistol shooting range, archery, turf ball toss and KidsWorld. Exhibits will include chainsaw sculptures, a car display, a magic show, Smokey the Bear and a living baby alligator. Vendors will sell duck calls, sportswear, lawn mowers, fishing gear and other products. Food trucks will also be on site, offering everything from barbecue, fried fish, chicken wings, burgers and hot dogs to vegan options, crushed ice and kettle corn, among others. The Withrow Family Cook-off will also see competitors offering food for sale. Several musical groups will also perform throughout the day, including Jason D. Williams, the Aces Wild Band and the Randall Lawson Band.

Vaccination clinic today
A COVID-19 vaccination clinic will be held today at the El Dorado Conference Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Vaccines are free and no one needs health insurance to get vaccinated.
Pancakes in pajamas with princesses and pirates breakfast today
The El Dorado Service League Pajama Pancakes with Princesses and Pirates Breakfast will take place today from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Boys and Girls Club in El Dorado. Tickets cost $ 2.
Event activities will include a pancake breakfast, bouncy houses, temporary tattoo parlor, princess nail salon, crafts, character animations, photos and more.
